okay this week i´m going to try to answer a lot of questions and describe what it´s like here. It´s really a lot harder to do than it sounds to describe a week in 30 mins. Haha. Well first i´ll start with the ward. There are some great people here. Our ward isn´t that big only like 40 people attend but there are a ton of people that are inactive. tHE hardest part is getting people to DO THINGS. Especially attend. ha. But it´s been great because we´ve really found a lot of people that have been awesome and even 3 attended. Quite a few of the members have been members for 11-12 years and they are really faithful and also a wave of newer members in the last few years too. It´s definately different here but there are some great people. Apparently we need to give a talk once a month and yesterday the bishop randomly asked me to talk. I was freaking out because it was in a meeting that would end right when church started and i had no time. It turns out the guy before me talked so much i didn´t have to. Phew. But i think im going to in a week. We´ll see. We also help sometimes teach and explain things in the new investigators class that we attend.
On a normal day (im being trained with the new program so it´s completely different then it used to be) i leave the house at about 12 and go to lunch which is almost always at 12:30 . So we usually get out just before 1:30 to for the day. We visit inactives, we teach new converts, we teach investigators, and we look for new people to teach. Just so you can imagine a little more how it´s going this week we found 9 new investigators. Mostly talking with people we see and knocking doors. We´ve had some real guidance by the spirit in this. Because normally people say knocking doors doesn´t really get success. And the missionaries in this area before us thought that too. But we´ve been really blessed in finding people. We taugt 7 lessions with members and 11 without members to investigators. We´re working on improving that number each week. But yeah this week i´ve learned so much about how to approach teaching people. WOW. i´ll have to share a little bit in a minute about that.
On P-days we get to prepare for the week and do laundry and clean the house. Today when i was sweeping i found a bunch of mouse poop. We´re going to have to buy a mouse trap... also today when we were studying this bird flew into our house and now it´s stuck in the upper part of our house. It reminded me of what happened with sharmaine. hah. But with the laundry these guys bring a laundry machine on a moto and heft it up to the third floor where we use it for like 3-4 hours. It usually cost like 3 dollars or a little less for the whole kit and kabootle. Speaking of motos if you guys want a better picture of colombia think of everysingle type of moto youve ever seen (motorcycle) and now multiply it by 30. Seriously. I see motos that the front half is a moto and the back half is a mini-semi-truck. Motos with big trailers. Motos with an entire family riding them, and motos loaded to the sky with things to sell. It´s pretty sweet. They´re literally everywhere. But the good thing is everyone wears helmets. Even if they´re only on their foreheads. hah. But sometimes I just dont´ understand what they´re thinking. haha.
Yesterday we taught two great families. It was interesting. When we arrived at the house of the second family they just moved to a smaller house and they dont have lights. It was pitch black so they left the TV on and we sat really close to it so we could all read. It was pretty sweet.
Well this is a little something i learned this week. One. I learned i can barely speak english now. But more importantly i learned how to really teach better. We had exchanges for a day and i went to a different area and WOW i learned a ton! It all comes down to this. Love you´re investigators and do all you can for them. Think about them. Study for them. Actually care about how they´re doing. Want for them to be happy. Help them... etc. It´s just that before this i was caring that they understood and how they could use this knowledge but i wasn´t helping them apply it to themselves. When you want to help someone you have to do it this way. So this week ive really been trying to do this. Help people discover the truth for themselves through the different questions and things we have them think about. So far it´s been really great. I sure wish i could write more to you all but seriously this work is so amazing. Mom i´m so proud of you for sharing the gospel. I realized that when you´re not technically a full time missionary it´s really easy to put this off and say that it´s not your duty. But being out here has helped me realize even more that pàrt of enduring to the end, pàrt of embracing the message the savior has for us, is sharing what we know and love, with others so they can be happy too.
I´ll try to send a picture of last p-day and this week i´m going to take a few more. I got a sweet fanny pack now so i think i can sneak my camera in there for a day.
Sorry for not realizing earlier how much I had. Our family really has been blessed with everything. I guess you´ve just got to spend a little time without it to realize. Well i love you all. Thanks for your support. I always pray for you.
Elder Stucki.
